Role overview:

At Project Blue, we provide market intelligence on critical materials for energy transition. Our focus is on understanding the complexities of rapidly evolving supply chains and translating this knowledge into accurate data, unbiased analysis, and expert insight to support industry and government decision-makers. We are seeking a skilled Researcher to join our growing team to support our analytical and product development capabilities. Based in Stellenbosch, you’ll be working directly with our senior leadership and global team, spread across six continents and serving a range of clients, including governments, financial institutions, tech firms, and automotive OEMs.

The Researcher will support Project Blue by:

  • Enhancing asset and company-level coverage across the dynamic markets of battery materials, steel alloys, minor metals, and industrial minerals.
  • Supporting global supply forecasts for these markets.
  • Supporting the buildout of new products.
  • Contributing to the company’s written commentary on market developments.

Job responsibilities:

  • Keep up to date with industry developments relevant to your commodity markets and downstream sectors.
  • Contribute in a supporting role to research projects and consulting work across the company.
  • Contribute to the development of databases and hone data analytics and forecasting techniques, working closely with our senior team.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Honours degree in geology, finance, economics, chemistry, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and data analytics tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, especially in data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines while producing high-quality, professional deliverables.
  • Proven ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and implement changes as needed.
